I have a 6th House Gemini but it’s empty. I wanted to add my two cents with the “pet” factor in the previous comments.  I find your reading on how 6th House is about animals smaller than a goat and 12th House is correlated to animals larger than a goat.

As far as animals are concerned, I see the air signs linked to birds – Gemini with corvids and parrots, Libra with doves and pigeons and Aquarius with seabirds (especially the pelican being that it’s a “water-bearing” animal), ducks, geese, swans and bats.

I see Gemini related to the city or all things common and prolific with Sagittarius is linked to all things wild and foreign.

Being a 6th House Gemini – I’ve ALWAYS have a love of birds. My mom and aunt would recall me that most of my Beanie Baby collection consisted entirely of birds. I have a love of parrots and I’d love to be a professional bird breeders, specializing with macaws.

An interesting note on that – I spoke to someone who was familiar with spirit guides and he told me that the reason why my spirit guide is a macaw is because in my past life, I lived in Rio de Janerio. He told me that if I went there, there would be this nostalgic feeling that would override me that I would know where everything is.

I’m thinking of posting in my next blog about animals and astrology.

      Veeery interesting.

I have Aquarius on the 6th house (with Icarus and the vertex there).
About a year or so ago I suddenly wanted to have a bird. I spent months researching different types of birds and visiting the pet shops. Ultimately I was afraid of the time commitment and that I wouldn’t be able to give a bird the kind of life it needs to thrive.

My only other real pets have been rabbits. I have a soft spot for bunnies.

      • Zodiacal_macaw_1210

What kind of bird were looking at?

I stand corrected – I have Hades in Gemini in the 6th House.

        • Michelle

          I was looking at Cockatiels.

          • Zodiacal_macaw_1210

Great starter birds 🙂 Cockatiels were my first birds. I started off having a normal male and a white-faced pied female. Afterwards, I had a female albino.

            • Michelle

That’s what I learned – that Cockatiels are good starter birds 🙂

I was curious and looked up Bob Dylan’s chart.  His Gemini Sun is in the 6th.  He definitely used his mind (and words) to benefit others.

    • Michelle

In writing this series, I made the decision only to reference people who have the planet in the house using Placidus and whole signs (meaning that the planet doesn’t change houses from one system to the other). It’s an experiment. Bob Dylan’s Sun moves into the 7th using whole signs,

      • LB

I’m not at all familiar with whole sign houses, having always used Placidus.  But I see what you’re saying, Michelle – using whole signs, Bob Dylan wouldn’t have a 6th house Sun.  Using the charts of celebrities seems like a good way to gauge which system offers a better fit, especially when it comes to Sun placement.  Interesting experiment.

        • Michelle

Unfortunately, doing it this way eliminates many celebrities from appearing on posts. Oh well 🙂

  • Michelle

Also, I’m afraid of bears…and gorillas.

    • billow

Do you mean like halloween costume gorillas?  I never run into them in these parts.  : )

    • LB

Recently I dreamed I was about to be attacked by a gigantic cat – I think maybe it was a leopard or panther.  Today we almost went hiking on an old favorite trail, but when we saw the mountain lion and bobcat warnings thought better of it.  It was just too weird of a coincidence after the dream and my comment about my 12th house.  My husband just looked at me and laughed.  No way was he going on that trail with me.

      • billow

Sorry, didn’t mean to give you nightmares.  Dug up Animal Wisdom book by Ted Andrews today and did some reading about the messages animals we dream about and animals that we see, bring.  I don’t get too into it, but it has alot of information about animal behaviors that I find interesting.

I have a Gemini midheaven, moon/mercury conjunction which I figure is similar to moon in Gemini—I have an ex-boyfriend who was a Gemini and fit the description to a T–lively, flirtatious, varied interests,a very short attention span…I would love to know what house his sun and other planets are in,but it would be a bit weird to call and ask for his birthtime. He has a strong Jupiter, in Cancer, conjunct Mercury (a big talker and know–it all),conjunct Venus, opposing Mars, trine Saturn in Scorpio–all of those aspects hit my Sun/Venus conjunction in Cancer, which was nice. He has been a race car driver,a fisherman,a horse-shoer,ran an excavation company, among other things, and grew up on the beach.Could be a lot of things.Would be interesting to see the whole picture–
Can’t wait for Cancer (Sun/Venus/Lilith,and Pandora too if you count asteroids) conjunct in the 10th (part of a kite with Jupiter at the other end, sextile Mars and Pluto)———

          • Michelle

It would be weird to call and ask him, but you could say you’re working on a project or something.  Email would make it even easier.

            • billow

Can you get birth certificate info from county public records or not?  Although I always find it best to ask permission.  Like, I’m looking at astrology and would you mind if I took a look at your chart.  I know you well, so it would really be helpful to me in my studies.

        • Michelle

I’ve wanted to get that book. The animal medicine tarot cards are good too.

          • billow

There are 2 pages on the gorilla in my copy.  And mama bear behavior is used as an example.

I’ve been hosed by a number of “alternative practitioners”.  But tarot readers seem more down to earth and integrated.  It must have to do with the process.   Just my take, but they seem less ego prone in their work.

        • LB

Thanks billow, but I had the dream about a month ago, long before you commented.  For a few days there, I was dreaming of wild animals every night.  It was very unusual for me – I immediately thought of Michelle.

          • billow

            Good.

You are wild kingdom.  Ye ha!

      • Michelle

The leopard and the panther – two of my faves 🙂

I wouldn’t have gone on the trail either!

  • Owly

This placement is also great for all Geminis loving the animals, maybe even to translate this connectedness to become veterinarians. They communicate so much with animals and can stimulate them through playfulness like probably no other Sun sign. 🙂 Gemini Ascendent,

    • Michelle

I write about the Gemini connection to animals in Gemini through the Houses: http://astrofix.net/2010/02/04/gemini-through-the-houses/

      • billow

This struck me as so odd on a gemini energy level.  Okay sixth and pets and I blew it off.  But since I moved to this house, gemini progressed sixth, I have had a constant barrage of stray cats and dogs showing up.  I think many of them are dump offs as I’m on the near edge of town and I have no wish to keep them all, so I end up finding them homes.  The neighbors cats and dogs waltz in like they own the place.

When the first two cats showed up in my life I put catdoors all through the house and to the outside because I can’t stand to see an animal caged.  Well, of course, there are times when I just can’t stay in pet food because there are wild cat parties going on while I am away or sleeping.  Sometimes the neighborhood pets come on in and stay.  I have been accused of animal theft more than once.  I feel like handing them a bill for the food.

My last cat is on her last legs and I do not plan on more pets.  What I am more interested in than owning animals is in enjoying wildlife.  I like population studies and realize that monitoring is important to ensure the health of the wildlife populations.  They are also good indicators of environmental hazards.  I do not mind collecting animals, measuring them, aging them, and sexing them as long as I don’t have to take samples from living animals.  My main area of support is in habitat creation.  Provide it and they will come.  Remove it and they are gone.

Another dimension.  Who’d a thunk.  Not me.

        • Michelle

The pet connection with the 6th seems to get overlooked a lot, which is too bad considering how important animals are in our lives. What I’ve read is that the 6th shows animals smaller than a goat and the 12th is animals bigger than a goat.

          • LB

During my 6th house Chiron Return, I was a dog magnet – wounded and/or lost dogs seemed especially drawn to me.  Before that, I always thought of myself as a cat person.  Sometimes when I’m giving Reiki, I’ll pick up on someone’s beloved pet, usually one that has recently passed on.  Initially I ignored what I was getting, mostly because it never occurred to me that animals would come through that way.  It probably helps that asteroid Diana is conjunct Chiron.  I’ve also always been a bird magnet, which is both good and bad.  In the Spring, Black Birds love to attack my head.

With Pluto and Uranus in the 12th (and  both forming challenging aspects), I’ve had several run-ins with bears.  As a kid, I was once chased by one.  That bear was definitely bigger than a goat.  It was HUGE.

            • billow

LB, no no no, do not run, the bear will chase you.  They are shortsighted, they cannot see at a distant.  A forester told me the best thing to do when you spot a bear is to wave your arms and say get out of here bear.  Apparently noise at a distance is a deterrent because they don’t know what they are dealing with because they can’t see it.  I hung bait for a bear pop study this spring and the locals that live in the forested area told me that they carry a whistle to deter them from getting near.  I did not see any bear but I did see bear crap on the forest floor.

Predators respond to things that move.  Like the cat for example who can play the string game for hours.  The prey side of the equation is usually handled by camoflauge, distraction, or hanging out in groups with one animal watching and warning.

I should have figured that an Indian wrestler could outrun a bear.

              • billow

PS….  I find pet readers fascinating.  Dog Woman passed a story to me of a pet psychic at a dog show who did a reading on a dog and the dog wanted to know why he was left alone, why he wasn’t taken.  This was a purebred money kind of dog and when he was a puppy someone broke into the house when the owner was away and stole his brothers and sisters.  Apparently he was some place else and wasn’t taken by the dog thief.

                • Michelle

                  That’s sad!

                  • billow

She did not know if the pet reader could remedy the discomfort because she was too floored by the reading to ask.  I can relate to that.

                    • Michelle

She could try flower remedies. I believe they are safe for pets.

              • LB

“I should have figured that an Indian wrestler could outrun a bear”

Ha ha ha!  Actually, it was my sprinting that saved me that time!  My little brother too.  We were fast.

Michelle, everything you say about bears is absolutely true – we spent every Summer out in nature, so we were well schooled as far as bears were concerned.  I ran into them everywhere – one time I was shopping in the campgrounds grocery store, when a mama bear and one of her cubs joined me in my aisle.  Unfortunately during the above mentioned incident, my brother and I were riding bikes at the time and didn’t notice the bear until after he began to chase us.  Being sprinters, we both abandoned our bikes and ran as fast as we could towards civilization.  My mother said when she went to retrieve them, the wheels were still spinning – lol!  The only thing that finally stopped the bear was my HUGE father, looming in the doorway of our tent, making large arm movements as he loudly banged on the bottom of a dishpan and hollered at the bear.  Other campers (idiots) were annoyed at my father because they’d wanted to take pictures.  So then my father yelled at them.  My father could be very heroic. 🙂

Now that I’m a grown-up, I avoid places that have bears, being the bear-magnet that I am.

                • Michelle

Side note: bears in dreams are often metaphors for your mother. Just thought I’d throw that in 🙂

                  • billow

The bear is virgo in native american astrology?

And I do think so Michelle, my mother would never crap in the woods.  She also claimed she never burped or farted.  And when she did, she always looked at someone else like they did it.   And no one ever said a word.   : )

                    • billow

I meant I do not think so.  Blew my own joke.  Damn!!

                    • Michelle

The bear is virgo in native american astrology?I don’t know.
                      Denial of bodily functions?

                    • billow

“Denial of bodily functions”  .   .   .   only those deemed socially unacceptable.  You gotta understand under their hard work and sweat (she was proud of that), there lived in my parents that highly romanticized 1940s movie couple magic.

              • Michelle

That’s what I’ve heard – that you should make a lot of noise and never unintentionally sneak up on a bear.

                • LB

Sorry billow, didn’t mean to call you Michelle.  I was on my way out and rushing.  Too many things going on for my Gemini Mars to handle.

                  • billow

“too many things going on”  .   .   .   ye ha saturn’s finally direct?

                    • Michelle

                      Finally.

          • billow

How fun!  With Neptune in the 12th, my illusory fears of the big savage acting beast were shattered by letting it play out for a change and realizing the t e*r &ro%%ist was just that.

Although my Sun is in Aries, it is also conjunct Mercury in the 3rd house….this is so Geminian and where is Gemini then in my chart? It starts in my 4th with Venus there 2 degrees Gemini and moves into my whole 5th house with my South Node there at 10 degrees and also then to my 6th house…no planets but the influence on the cusp, so I am relating to this Michelle. Can very much relate, thank you!

    • Michelle

It’s hard to visualize exactly what you’re referring to, but Sun conjunct Mercury in the 3rd house has similarities to Gemini. If your South Node is in Gemini (in the 6th house?) that would really give reason to relate to this description.

      Thank you for reading, Shawn.

      • Shawn M. Cohen

Hi Michelle, yes, what I mean is my Sun/Mercury conjunct is in the 3rd, (Gemini’s natural house) but Gemini itself starts in my 4th house. There I have Venus in Gemini (2 degrees and opposing Saturn in Sag also 2 degrees in the 10th) but this Gemini energy sweeps across into my 5th with is where I have my south node in 10 degrees Gemini (obviously N.Node in Sag in the 11th house) and finally Gemini also on the cusp of the 6th house..so Gemini energy dominates all those houses…quite a story. (Yes, pun intended!) :p  And today I have my Venus return into Gemini, let’s hope it is a Good Story! 🙂

I love this new series, I don’t think it’s been done anywhere else, not that I know of!

Can’t wait til you get to mine! If you’re going in order I’ll have to wait a while, though! (Pisces 3H)

    • Michelle

I’m so glad you like it 😀

It will take a little while to get to Pisces, but in the mean time you’ll be able to check out family and friends.

  • LB

    Love that clip!

    • Michelle

Oh, that’s good…it’s a little strange so I wasn’t sure how everyone it would go over… still, it’s fascinating to see the figures 🙂
