    Greetings Michelle,

I'm really enjoying reading your posts. You bring new insights and clarity to my study of astrology.
I have a question about today's topic as it relates to the nodes and vocation.
My 10th House ruler — Mercury — is in the 12th, as is my South node. My North node is in Pisces in the 6th.
I have read your post on the nodes and would like to better understand how to interpret my North node given the position of my 10th house ruler.
    Any comments?
    Thanks,
    G

This question is good timing because the Nodes are on my mind a lot lately. I'm thinking about doing a series of posts about nodes in signs and houses, as well as the aspects that they make.

Just briefly, you're moving away from an environment of having very specific ideas about intangible processes and possibly also being quite critical about spiritual practices. You might have been a spiritual purist, thinking that were only certain specific ways that a person could reach bliss. Another possibility is that you devoted yourself in service to people through charity.

Now you're moving toward a state of being comfortable in letting go during everyday routines and allowing yourself to connect with everyday reality in a very fluid way. Your North Node seems zen-like to me: allowing yourself to let go and immerse yourself into your daily activities, viewing every mundane task as spiritual practice. You might also be ready to cultivate humility as you become an apprentice learning a new trade or skill.

With your 10th house ruler being in the 12th along with your South Node there could be a conflict in wanting to retreat to your old ways as you seek recognition, or pursue a vocation. You might feel that you have to sacrifice yourself in service to others. You may also find yourself clinging to the concept that there is a specific way that you should behave in order to reach your career goals instead of just letting your days unfold and giving yourself over to the moment.

**Ruler of the 10th in 8th**
Now, I understand..why it seems that I my career never get an outlet to be accepted deliberately, hmm..can we put 8th house to the house of career and public recognition then? Idk where I heard that but this house really speak through to my career and the whole mumbo jumbos in my life more than 6th house represent my work habit. If I really go to my aspiration, the 8th house with exploding Uranus and restrictive Saturn make me a complex character. Because, I’m a SEXUAL human being with a CAPITAL! All my resume and portfolio is nothing PG 13, there are hardcore gay sex everywhere! If I dont make a revolution for myself? How’s gonna set me free? lol
If I can confront this…I believe the uranus-lilith, chiron opposition will crack..and when it crack, it will unleash my 2nd house potential to making MONEY!! :) then it will sextile my North Node and I will finish my life purpose completely.
THANKS ALOT for this mind blowing article Mich, I haven’t read this the whole time, what a shame! :) Thankie lol

I have the ruler of the 10th in the 8th too. I’m finally accepting that whatever kind of career I choose probably isn’t going to fit into a neat and easy category. My career success will most likely come through something my ability (or inability) to touch something deeper in other people.

    #
    • Joswan says:

Ah..is that you have Scorpio in 2nd and Taurus in 8th? One placement that I really hard to describe :) I think you know your path is! ;) that could make an excelent detective work too!!

      #
      • Michelle says:

No, I have Scorpio 2nd and Taurus 9th, but my Sun, Mercury (chart ruler) and Venus (North Node ruler) are in the 8th and Pluto is in the 2nd.

I have the same placement Michelle. I was hoping it was 10 in 10 — 10th in 10th… a hole-in-one… *sputters*… guess not!! lol… — Very nicely written and clear article!!

      • Michelle says:

Lol…I guess the astrological hole in one would be ruler of the 1st house in the 1st house ;)

” Your true vocation involves sex.” What?! ruler of 10 house is in 8th house. er my 10th house is cusps between aquarius and capricorn. but the aquarius occupies most of it and its in the beginning. since aquarius is ruled by uranus, i consider 8th hosue coz its where uranus is. maybe this is the reason why i consider art as sex at the same time. lolz! i was afraid i would become a hooker or something. “Your profession involves working with the dead.” what does this mean?

    #
  12. Michelle says:

Those are just possibilities. You could also work with other people’s stuff, perhaps as a therapist or counselor. Working with the dead? The usual: mortician, undertaker, estate planners, detectives… How many people really work with the dead? I don’t know. I wish I knew more of them so I could look at their charts.

    #
    • Anonymous says:

Actually, I just finished a romance novel, now in the process of editing it. Thenmaybe my next project is a detective murder mystery stuff. That’ll will work. There’s no way ill become a mortician. lolz. scared of cadavers! ha ha

  13. Zoa says:

    Hey Michelle
What would happen when the rulers of the 6th and the 10th are in each others houses?
I have the ruler of the 6th in the 10th and the ruler of the 10th in the 6th.
Does it work like a mutual reception? Because I have the planets that rule these houses in mutual reception (Mars in Sag trine Jupiter in Aries). I’ve read that mutual reception with an aspect is supposedly strong stuff (too bad Mars is cadent and they’re both inhibited by Saturn).
I’ve experienced that with this combination, the daily work and the career are one and the same.  How would you interpret this?

    #
    • Michelle says:

There is reciprocity there, and double so for you because the planets involved are also in mutual reception. In this case the 6th house serves the 10th house and the 10th house serves the 6th house. Honing the skills of your trade or craft helps you build a professional reputation, and, the way you present yourself out in public impacts what kind of jobs are available to you.

      #
      • Zoa says:

Interesting. I don’t know why, it is easier for me to think in terms of what the 6th does for the 10th but not so much about what the 10th does for the 6th.
I’m going to continue reading to see what else can I learn.

        #
        • Michelle says:

It does seem easier to think about the 6th serving the 10th, maybe because the 6th house is the house of service. The 10th also tends to show what kind of expectations you set for yourself – just something else to think about.

    Great post!
MC in Gemini, Mercury in the 7th -  I really do hope that my future partner and I will work together, or at least cooperate in a way, i would really enjoy it :) And Im also getting into the direction of working in one on one, and I start to feel more and more that it really fits me, and well,  one on one relationships have been always very important to me.  But i also want to carry on with my writing career, and even translation/interpretation :D

That’s great! I like one-on-one as a career direction for someone with the ruler of the 10th in the 1st.

      • AriesGirl says:

        Yea, thanks :)
What I do find difficout though is to combine the Gemini MC and Mercury in Pisces… because Pisces is everything, but intellectual… I had this inner conflict or duality from a  very early age,  and it can be quite frustrating at times. When im doing the Gemini or Virgo things, I miss spirituality and the non-intellectual things, but when Im off the computer/my books for some days, I start to miss those things, although I wish I wasnt…
