Saturn/Uranus Aspects

Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean: Saturn 24 Scorpio 08' Rx conjunct Uranus 25 Scorpio 01'

Flying in the face of convention. Breaking free from the past. Ignoring the advice of your elders. Forsaking safety for freedom. Flying solo. How you feel about “The rules are made to be broken.” Getting more rebellious with age. Growing into your freedom. Rebelling against authority. Rebelling against your parents. Inability to fit in (not without trying). Ultimately pulling away from the past to pursue your own course.

Torn between duty and the desire to be unencumbered. Reconciling your nonconformity with the need for authority and recognition. Doing the conventional in a completely unconventional way. Breaking up stuck energy. Breaking up rigid patterns. Straying off the straight and narrow path. Rejecting rules and regulations. Mastering the unpredictable. Mastering your personal genius. Putting your original ideas into practice. Finding ways to make your genius apply to the real world. The nitty gritty of technology. Computer science. Using technology in real life. Technology becomes mainstream. Real Genius. Original Master. An authority on rebellions. Seriously geeky. Real life freaks. Everyday nerds. Unconventional teachers. Astrology teachers.

Changing the rules. Technology changes the rules. Groups of people change the rules – mobs, protesters and activists. Sudden revelations about the past. Time to make a decision between clinging to the past or moving into the future. Time to overturn the old guard. Time to catch up with technology. Going against convention. Finding new ways to do old things. Shunning societal norms. Taking unconventional concepts and making them the norm. Upsetting the best laid plans. Upsetting the established order. Breaking from tradition. Overturning the old order just to set up a new order. No longer willing to go along with things the way they are. Shocking realities. Sudden authority. Chaos is the reality. Authorities attempt to suppress your freedom. Rules keep you from liberation. Pursuing freedom from restriction.

Alternate realities. Using technology to break from the past. Original ideas that become conventions. Old people experiencing chaos in the face of new technologies. Cranky old people. Elderly people who behave erratically and unpredictably. Resisting taking on the responsibilities that come with maturation. How older people adjust to change. Issues surrounding the elderly and their freedom. Unpredictable melancholy and depression. Technologies that increase life span. Breakthroughs that increase life span. Sudden insights into aging.

floating black block in the desertThe limits of the future. The limits of technology. Unconventional disciplines. Getting serious about exploring your originality. Struggling against doing what is expected. Testing the truth. The practical application of sudden insights. The practical application of astrology. Lessons gained from the struggle for freedom. Strange tests. Rebelling while maintaining your position of authority. Finding a way to do your own things while still fitting into the rest of society. Experiencing a sense of detachment from rules, regulation and authority. Planning a revolution. Eccentric rule-breakers. Real revolutions.

The conjunction of Saturn and Uranus occurs every 40 years or so. The last conjunctions were in 1942 and 1988. The next conjunction will be in 2032.

I have the trine aspect and I relate to these descriptions the most. In my chart, my12th house Uranus, 4th house Saturn and 8th house South Node form a Grand Trine, IF you count the Nodes. Although with two oppositions, I guess it would technically be called a Kite. (?)

Your statement about “the practical application of astrology” helps explain why just a few years worth of intensive astrological study has given me so much insight into myself. As far as “issues surrounding the elderly . . .”, there’s nothing like caring for elderly parents (especially one who’s dying) to make one aware of “shocking realities” – with Uranus in the 12th, the realities can be pretty shocking. And naturally, I like the part about “breaking up stuck energy” since that relates to healing through Reiki.

Your unique way of describing the combination of planetary influences is very illuminating, Michelle! I like the way your descriptions lead me to make other connections. I’ve learned a lot from you. :)

I like that you always elaborate on why and how you relate to a certain aspect. These conversations always help me to refine my understanding of how astrology works.

Your configuration sounds like a kite. Putting the Nodes is tricky though. Because they are only points, and not real bodies, their orbs are usually quite small.

Thanks, Michelle – your comment means a lot. I’m glad my sharing helps.

Thanks also for your input on my aspects – the trine between Saturn and the SN is pretty tight, but to Uranus, not so much. I do understand that the Nodes don’t emit energy, so what you’ve said makes sense. I guess my wanna-be Grand Trine has been demoted – wah wah! Oh well.

          Lol… :D

Tom Jacobs uses a fairly wide orb when looking at the Nodes for past life and karmic info. My impression is the looser the orb to a node the more the energy is a suggestion or general direction and the closer the orb, the more critical it becomes to integrate the energy of the aspecting planet.

I know you know I’m a big fan of asteroids . . . when they fit. I have asteroid “Karma” (3811) in the 12th forming a TIGHT trine with my 4th house Saturn and 8th house SN. That little asteroid has been VERY significant for me (I could tell you some wild stories). It’s one of the asteroids I keep track of through transits and secondary progressions.

I only mention it because it seems to tie in with what you’re saying. There’s no question but that I was destined to play out some kind of karmic journey with my parents, especially my mother. I learned a great deal and what I learned changed me forever.

Well, it’s been nice chatting with you but this old fart is off to bed now – hahaha!

I looked up asteroid “Karma” a while ago…mm…here it is… 11 Libra 55′ in the 2nd house, conjunct Pluto at 10 Libra 06′ Rx. Well, doesn’t that figure? Second house stuff is kicking my ass lately with transiting Saturn in Libra.

Wow, that’s interesting. And it does seem a bit more than coincidence. Although I didn’t know it at the time, on the day progressed Karma joined my natal 12th house Pluto (within two minutes), I dreamed of a long karmic journey I’d be going on. Many years later I found out there was an asteroid by that name, which is when I discovered the astrological connection.

Based on my own experience, I’d say Karma asks something of us, but is not without its rewards. I also think it seeks to transform us, not unlike Pluto. Btw, when progressed Karma joined my natal Pluto, it also squared my natal Mars, ruler of my 8th house and 8th house placements (including SN and BM Lilith/Sedna).

I can relate to the 2nd house transit – my own packed 2nd house is taking a whuppin’ right now too! Saturn conjunct Pluto is a double whammy. Been there, done that, and am glad it’s over.

Veery interesting. Anything that touches my natal Pluto also touches my natal Mars at 10 Cancer 00′, and quite often my ascendant at 10 Virgo 55′. Mars is the ruler of my 8th house as well.

if saturn is fear, wouldnt fear of being different or rebelling be one of them, i feel detached from rules, that one hit me

        #
        • Michelle says:

Yes, definitely and I remembered the “fear” part of it shortly after I posted. Fear of rebellion, fear of change, fear of upsets – any of those would fit this aspect. There may also be a fear of expressing your uniqueness because you may be rejected by standard society. You might suppress your eccentric qualities or try to limit any personal characteristics that mark you as strange or unusual.

          #
          • David5379 says:

yaaa, that sounds like me sometimes, especially 6th house day-to-day stuff, yet i have my fair share of uranian qualities, and although sometimes i can be the one who doesnt want upsets in other situations im the one fearlessly opposing needless restrictions and outright arguing with authority, my friends who talked big end up looking at me like it was i big deal, maybe i can be an authority in rebellion(i have a story of being one) as well, its weird how you can be the opposite things at the same time in astrology

Uranus trine Saturn here in fire signs, which I think can be especially creative! (You’re hitting all my aspects lately, but I’ve been too busy to read up on the posts and comments…)

    #
    • Michelle says:

Hm…I wonder. I think there would be “productive inspiration” with Saturn and Uranus trine in Fire.

Keeping up with blogs gets overwhelming sometimes. I’ve relegated Sunday to be my no-work blog reading for fun only day.

      #
      • Les says:

“Productive inspiration” – perfect! As for blog reading, weekends I’m mostly offline with my bf, which is good. I read before/after work when I can, or sometimes at work if I’m really bored and can get away with it! I’m sitting at a computer all day at work anyway. Now that the weather’s good, I try to get off my butt and get outside. :-)

I know what you mean. I try to keep blog-related activities to a minimum on weekends so my bf doesn’t feel like a blog widower.

I have the sextile: 22 Virgo Saturn with 20 Scorpio Uranus. The only thing I can do is quote a custom T I made: “Oops! Sorry I Didn’t Read The Script. I Was Out Creating My Own Reality.” Pretty much, right? Let’s just hope I don’t turn out to be cranky when I get older… :-)

Thanks also Michelle for having fresh insights on this aspect. As I’m sure you know, the typical interpretation talks about the ability (or inability) to be a bridge between generations. This interpretation, at least for me, never seemed to be quite right.

That’s the thing about this combination. You might start out as the rebel and turn into the old fart, or you might start out as straight-laced and become incorrigible as you get older.

The bridge between generations comes in with that new versus old dynamic. As LB mentioned it may also turn out that your parents inhibit your freedom as they age and become more immobile.

      #
      • LB says:

Hmmm, that’s interesting because I think I started out as an uber responsible little adult, then went wild for a long time and then gradually became super responsible again. So I guess that makes me an old fart using popular standards. I am growing into my uniqueness as I get older though, so maybe before I’m 80, I’ll have another opportunity to be wild again. I’ll be that lady dancing on tables and passing around petitions at the nursing home – LOL! Saturn rules my 5th, if that makes any difference.

        #
        • Plutonian Persona says:

Yeah, that’s me too LB: the uber-responsible little adult who has turned into a rebel (it doesn’t help that my progressed Sun just entered Sagittarius). Who knows when I’ll go back to being uber-responsible (when my progressed Sun hits Cappy, right?) :-)

The funny thing is that I’ve always gotten along with people much older than myself, but have also been the most progressive in whatever group I’m in and so totally misunderstood; that’s the bridge I guess…

Who knows when I’ll go back to being uber-responsible (when my progressed Sun hits Cappy, right?) :-)

Probably – unless it makes an aspect to Uranus.

            #
          • LB says:

Hi Plutonian Persona – I’ve always gotten along with people in different age groups too. When I was young, I used to hang out with the much older women I babysat for; they’d even ask for my advice (I’m a Plutonian too). Now that I’ve gotten older, I seem to attract people much younger than me – they want to hang out, which makes me feel even older than I am – ugh! I’m still drawn to older people, only now I have to make a special effort to find them. My progressed Sun (and Venus/Saturn) are in Sag now too, but my progressed Moon is in Capricorn. I’m a walking contradiction.:)

Michelle – You know in retrospect, I have to say I’ve always been (and still am) very outspoken and rebellious in my unique(?) observations about hypocritical authority figures and/or bureaucratic systems (Saturn in Sag). I was very VERBALLY rebellious as an adolescent (and adult), in terms of speaking the truth and crying foul when my parents acted like hypocrites. I think I tried to run away once, but it was more of a political statement than anything else and I didn’t get far. Another time, I went on a hunger-strike (how Uranus in the 12th is that? – ha ha) Yet I still managed to remain responsible, as in making sure my little brother got to school and by trying to be a “good” little girl in most other ways. My teachers, principals, and other authority figures (and parents) always loved me, so I could never figure out why my parents didn’t – ha! I guess that’s how the trine works. To be fair, I don’t think my parents ever really saw me – my uniqueness and creativity were invisible to them. All they saw was a talking head that needed to learn its place.

Every once in a while fear would get to me (I almost got myself killed – Uranus opposite Chiron)and I would quietly go along for a while, until I couldn’t stand it any longer. Uranus doesn’t take kindly to being bottled up – that energy always needs an outlet. Allowing myself to be guided and inspired by something bigger than myself (Uranus in the 12th) has helped. Getting older has helped!

            #
            • Plutonian Persona says:

You’ve gotta love coincidence LB: my progressed moon is in Cappy too! :-) That’s too funny! Although for me I’ve always gotten along with people much older or much younger than myself, that’s something that is a constant in my life…that has to do with my Saturn in the 11th and my South Node in the 5th though.

              #
              • LB says:

That is funny! I have Moon in the 5th – trine Ceres, trine MC – and the Moon rules my 11th house cusp. So I tend to take on a somewhat maternal persona in all of my friendships, which makes me appealing to anyone in need of a little mentoring or encouragement, regardless of age. But with Saturn in the 4th (and ruler of my 5th), I long for connections to those among us who are older and wiser., although ironically, I usually end up taking on the role of nurturer with them too. With Saturn in your 11th, I’m guessing you can relate. :0

                #
                • Michelle says:

You do come across with a maternal quality. Does your Moon aspect your ascendant?

Or, maybe you’re picking up on Hekate (100) conjunct my Ascendant from the 12th. You seem sensitive to archetypal energies.

                    #
                  • Flavio says:

I do. Moon trining my ascendant. I have the moon in the 11th. So, I nurture and get nurtured. A lot of women taken the role of my Mom, seriously. Older women from different countries. My moon is much more aspected than my natal sun, my moon positively aspected by juno, uranus, mercury, venus and saturn. Actually my descendant is Leo, so the Sun is my complement, enemy or partner. Only aspected positively by Jupiter.

So, I concluded that my moon is much more empowered than my sun. So I have to look for a solar-jupiterean partner.

              • Michelle says:

“Uranus opposite Chiron .   .   .   .   almost got myself killed”   I almost peed my pants.  That is so great.  I mean not that you almost got killed.  That correlation struck a chord with my own natal uranus opposition chiron aspect.  Step right in there and take the hit.  Oh righteous righteous me.

              #
        • Michelle says:

If you get to be around 80 you’ll have your Uranus Return which could make you a rebellious “teen grandma.” My grandmother is actually going through this transit right now (natal Uranus in Aries). She’s having a delayed teenage rebellion in her 80s having followed the rules her whole life. She doesn’t have a natal Saturn/Uranus aspect but she does have natal Saturn in Aquarius.

  8. Zoa says:

I have the Saturn-Uranus conjunction at 0 deg Capricorn.
I can relate very well to this: “Finding a way to do your own things while still fitting into the rest of society”

This aspect by itself would not be very strong in my chart, but it is also conjunct Mars and trine Jupiter the two “energizing” planets; and sextile the Sun (my sense of identity).

So I often feel like a “time bomb”, wanting to explode and break free at some point, but never really setting off out of having too much responsibilities (which is the most frustrating thing ever).
After trying to work with this aspect for too long I finally managed to understand it as doing things (Mars) my own personal way (Uranus) but responsibly (Saturn).

    #
    • Michelle says:

With Saturn/Uranus you may never be entirely free from duty and responsibility to do your own thing but finding a way to make these situations work in your favor is a great solution.

Its interesting that more things ring true for me in your posts when I have the trine of that aspect. I have a grand trine of saturn, mars and uranus.

    #
    • Michelle says:

That’s interesting because the posts try to balance between negative and positive meanings.

How do you experience your grand trine? Which signs is it in?

      #
      • Joe says:

I’m not really sure. To my limited knowledge, there are a lot of variables that make it unclear to me how it all comes together. Gem Saturn 4h, Aqua Mars 12h and Lib Uranus 8th house. Uranus is conjunct Venus and the Sun. My sun is also conjunct pluto and mercury but those planets aren’t involved in the grand trine.

In Qabalah, the marriage of Saturn and Uranus yields the Empress, which is the card associated to planet Jupiter. So, it is a fruitful Union. The sacred forms and the pristine energy. The sacred geometries and the universal mind.

    Flavio

    • Michelle says:

Thank you Flavio. I don’t know much about Qabalah, but I understand the Empress. I’m surprised that Saturn/Uranus would yield the Empress. They are two planets known for their detachment and relative coldness while the Empress is known for being nurturing, fertile and caring.

what about saturn-uranus mutual reception? and saturn in aquarius?

To make material freedom and sci-fi ideals are the beautifulest expresions of saturnian energy ever, I’m willing to see how it will manifest on my generation.

Personally, I have a hard time “unpackaging” saturn’s present.

    Hi Michelle,

I have Saturn Leo 16’45 2nd square Uranus Scorpio 8’29 5th with -8’15 orb applying

You wouldn’t think that it’s all that strong, but it seems by some of your descriptions that it’s fairly strong.

Here’s a few of the things that I can relate to…

“Inability to fit in (not without trying).” I definitely have a problem with this. I’ve had multiple people say that they don’t understand me and many people who are surprised by some of my behavior when I do certain things. I don’t do this on purpose, it just happens. I had one guy yell at me on the phone one time he said “why can’t you be normal!”

“Ultimately pulling away from the past to pursue your own course.” For example: Over 13 years ago I moved by myself from Washington and away from my family and friends because I new I needed to follow a different path.

“Struggling against doing what is expected.” I hate the idea of being boring and/or predictable though I do get stuck in ruts, but I’ll try to find a way to break out of it because ruts,to me, can cause stagnation and lack of growth.

    #
    • Michelle says:

      “why can’t you be normal!”

      What a thing to say!

Did your pulling away period correspond with any transits or progressions? Thirteen years is roughly one Neptune transit.

I know, that wasn’t very nice of him was it,he’s one of the many who have trouble understanding me. That’s alright though, for some reason in this life I’m meant to be different and thus learn something from it. =-)

Around the time of my change, I don’t remember the exact date I left, it was sometime in September 1998….
I had Uranus and my NN in my 4th house in my progressed chart for around that time period.
or Then I had Progressed Neptune,P. Mars, P. Sun conjunct Natal Neptune 6th house … I also had Jupiter transiting my 9th house and moon transiting my 10th house. I don’t think I had a neptune return though.

I never would have though of Neptune causing a change like that.

        You make me think :-)

It’s Saturn conjunct Uranus time for me right now… Born with a natal trine, though. Thank you. Brilliant and very helpful *

“What are rules?” I ask. Then, “what are the expectations?” Then, “What are the roles?” “What most people do?”

If I do not follow on these, then I feel and think like a sheep. And I do feel and think sick on the inside because my freedom demands a sense of search for the truth in life. I do not look down on any topic, or subject, and I am a begginer in many fields, but to start searching, that is the entire point of life and living, and this is the point of freedom.

What is history than people copy and pasting what they are, who they are, and how they live their lives? I am sorry that history did not allow people to have freedom, but in this day and age, if you copy and paste, then you do not know what you living for, who you are, and what you are–and certainly you are not free. You copy and paste.

Hi i have a saturn-Uranus conjuction in House 8 with Capricorn sign.
    They are
    - in square with Sun in Pisces, house 11
    - in sextile with Mercury in Pisces, house 10
    - in trine with Moon in Aries, house 12
    - in trine with Jupiter in Taurus, house 12

I’ve just started understanding astrology and find it interesting but this one is way too complicated for my level. Can you please let me know how these positions work together and what effects they have on house 8? thanks x

      Hi Aashka,

This question is way too complicated for a blog response. It’s difficult to know without doing a full natal chart reading.
