Sun / Descendant Aspects

sun-descendant-aspectsYour identity reflects back to you through another’s eyes. You gravitate to the partner who reflects what you want to see in yourself. Do you think I’m sexy? Am I fun enough? Am I tough enough? Am I smart enough? Do you see what I see? You look for people who share your viewpoint. You look to fit in with others rather than pull yourself away.

Standing in the other’s shoes. Putting yourself in another’s place. I see myself reflected in you. I want to do what you want to do. Co-dependency. Reliance on the partner to a fault. Unable to cope on your own. Sense of self developed through close relationships – romantic partners, business partners, and close friends. You like to have a confidante. You like to have someone to bounce ideas off of. You need to have someone to confide in. Stand by Me. Stand by your man. I’ll stand by you. Dancing cheek to cheek.

You get to know yourself through relationship. Watch what you do in relationship to discover who you are. How do you treat others? The janitor? The businessman? Yourself? Basking in the glow of your partner. Beaming with your mate by your side. Wanting to be with someone you can be proud of. Identifying with the other. Putting yourself in other people’s shoes. Imposter. Poseur. Mimic. Fraud. Mooch. Copycat. A beautiful girl with beautiful friends. Mean girls. You’re only as good as your best competition. How can you know how good you are without someone to measure yourself against?

You want to marry someone with a healthy sense of self. You want to be with someone who knows herself. You want to be with someone who has a solid ego. You like people who are self-assured, confident, and magnetic. You feed off the rays of your close circle. You look to them to lift you up. In return, you continue to boost their sense of self as you boost yours. You’re a fan, an admirer. You gush. They better gush back! Purr.

Mutual admiration society. Enjoying the company of good friends. Happy to be in a relationship. Friends or lovers? Crossing boundaries with good friends. Putting people in the friend zone. Who is good enough to be your mate? Who can measure up? The 7th house is the home of Libra and Libra’s image is the scale, and scales are used to measure. Tit for tat. This for that. Bartering. What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is yours. Stealing your best friend’s partner. Exchanges. Basking in the glow of fair exchange. Getting a fair deal. Making fair trades. Putting your ego into all this fairness. Great business people.

It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction. ~ Warren Buffet

You might have too much ego centered on how many people want you as a partner. Your ego builds by proving you can get a worthy partner. Trophy wife. Competitive dating. The Bachelor. The Bachelorette. Your ego feeds off what you see in a potential partner’s eyes. You’re likely to pick a partner based more off how much they want you instead of how much you want them. You like to be seen as attractive. You want to be seen as a peace maker. Sometimes your ability to take the opposite side causes more arguments and strife than necessary … all in the name of being fair and providing an opposite viewpoint.

You also attract people, frequently of the same sex, who are just like you – and this bring competition. You might not realize that you are competing. Who loves dogs the most? Who has the best yoga outfit? Who has tried more microbrews? Who gets the most looks when you go out? Who is the nicest? Well, you and your bestie are neck and neck for a range of titles in little-known competitive sports. Ever been in a “nice” competition?

Planets in aspect to the Descendant are also always in aspect to the Ascendant. Posts will be split up between Ascendant and Descendant to show the different point of view that each of the angles brings to the natal chart. It’s so hard to find good descendant posts! With my Sun, Venus and Jupiter conjunct on the descendant, I can’t wait to see more! My partner has moon on the DC, so also can’t wait for that! Not sure if you know, but the last sentence is incomplete…

    • All the benefics for you and your partner – very nice 🙂

Thank you for pointing out the last sentence. I deleted it!

  • Chijiru .

    Great work as always!.
So the Ascendant is how you yourself are and the Descendant is how you reflect on others?

    • I think the ascendant is what you project out into the world onto others and the descendant is the other side, the receiving end. Some people place themselves on the receiving end, others on the outgoing end … ultimately they are two sides of the same coin.
